Cultivating Futures
Our Cause
We are actively involved in the prevention of child labor in the coffee-growing areas of Honduras. Our mission is to guarantee a safe environment for children while their parents perform work related to the coffee harvest.
The Cultivating Futures Project aims to prevent child labor in the coffee sector by raising awareness and promoting good practices for the protection of children.
This project has contributed to equipping facilities specially designed to provide care and support for children between the ages of 3 and 12. These spaces are known as "Child Care and Development Centers," where children spend the day during the coffee harvest season, which runs from November through February.
In the Care Centers, children develop educational and recreational activities, allowing them to consolidate their learning, expand their knowledge, strengthen their skills and abilities for integral human development, through educational games.
This project began in partnership and with the financial support of the Association of Coffee Exporters of Honduras (ADECAFEH), and then expanded thanks to the collaboration of Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE-Peet's), the German Society for
International Cooperation (GIZ) and other partners, coffee cooperatives, individual producers, local governments, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and Community Based Organizations.
